We are a friendly club, founded in 1985, and now with some 130 members.

Our activities include:

  • Annual Daffodil Charity Show
  • Annual Flower Vegetable and Craft Show
  • Workshops (if requested)

By the next meeting, some of us will have crossed the country to visit RHS Bridgewater for the first time, on our 3 day Garden Club Trip. We’re also visiting Biddulp Grange, Lasky Farm, and Tatton Park before stopping to see Brodsworth Hall and Garden on the return journey. We are all looking forward to having a great time seeing the gardens and spending some time together again with new and old friends.

Our June speaker was Andrew Mikolajaski on a talk amusingly called ‘Pin me on the wall and do what you want with me’! Andrew explained why things need particular pruning or not – and he made it easy to understand by explaining how these plants naturally  grew.

The next meeting will be Mick Poultney aka the Compost King  speaking to us on ‘Raised Beds and No Dig’. Something which we haven’t necessarily all thought about before

Your Club Needs You! Having retired from shows, and in the Covid delayed process of handing over the reins to Allan and Nikki, Bill and Jean have been persuaded to return to the Committee for as an interim to run  this year’s September Show only. Allan and Nikki had an unexpected opportunity to fulfil their ambition to move to Scotland, which they have sensibly taken. We are all very grateful for all the work so far and especially to Bill and Jean for stepping into the breach. However, the Club needs new Show Organisers.  There is always a great amount of help to present both the Daffodil and September Shows, but it needs at least one person to co-ordinate and run. Could that be you?  Plenty of support will be available.

I am also appealing for general members on the Committee to replace those that have/are soon to step down. Please come forward – we only meet for about an hour each month.

Pauline, our Travel Secretary is very keen to make everyone aware that due to the difficulty of booking coaches, all trips will now have to be paid for TWO months prior to departure. 

Pauline is now in the throes of organising a trip to Newby House for the Harrogate Autumn Show. Details from her at the meeting. 

Teas, coffee and orange juice are now being served. The raffle is also there as usual, with grateful thanks to Lynda and Pat.

 PLEASE LOOK AT THIS WEBPAGE AND AT YOUR EMAILS TO CHECK WHAT IS HAPPENING BEFORE COMING TO ANY MEETING.  The safety and well being of the membership at the present time is still paramount and we must adhere to the Government Guidelines. If these should change then we will inform you, as quickly as possible, if these changes affect future Speaker Meetings, by email and on this website.

This year’s -2022- Charity is the LINCS AND NOTTS AIR AMBULANCE.

Due to the need to keep the medical team at Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance covid-free, they were unable to come to the meeting to promote this year’s charity. Nicky gave a short account of their work and the cost of keeping the ambulance flying, all done through voluntary donations and with no government funding.

 

Fire Regulations restrict numbers in the hall but provided we have fewer than 100 people, (we average 85) you will be welcome to come and  join us.
